MacArthur Asia Security Initiative Annual Meeting 2011

Time:2011/7/7
On 12th June, MacArthur Asia Security Initiative Annual Meeting was held at the Lakeview Hotel of Peking University. The meeting was sponsored by the MacArthur Foundation and organized by CISS, Peking University. Scholars and policy makers from research institutions all over the world, which are supported by the Foundation, attended the event and held heated discussions.

The conference was divided into three sessions, covering the following topics: rising power dynamic and its measurement; power shift and regional impacts; regional reactions and the balance of power system in East Asia. Participants reached the consensus that rising powers will have important implications for the institutional and normative structuring of world politics, which currently largely reflects the interests and cultural perspective of the US as the predominant international player. In the afternoon, the group divided into three clusters: traditional security issues, non-traditional security issues and regional flashpoints. The individual clusters presented the achievements of the participating institutions over the past year. Amy Gordon, Director of International Peace and Security at the MacArthur Foundation, interacted with participants and discussed future cooperation plans and funding arrangements.
